Beth Dembitzer, Producer and Curator:

Beth work as a producer, director and writer has been shaped by a commitment to social equality and human rights and a love of music. Her film and television productions include Lives Together, Worlds Apart: Men and Women in a Time of Change, a documentary exploring UN- led efforts to raise the status of girls and women in developing countries around the world; it was broadcast on PBS and CNN International. For the PBS/Annenberg Media series Democracy in America, she examined the role of the New York Police Department in protecting civil liberties in a time of terrorism. A Passion for New Music (PBS) accompanies American classical musicians teaching and on tour from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Jazz at Newport, the Newport Jazz Festival television specials, were distributed to PBS, JVC Japan and throughout Europe. She got her start producing at ABC News.

Through Arena Pictures, she has been a producer and executive producer of feature film co-productions from the US, Canada, South Africa, Argentina, Poland, Bulgaria and India.

Producing award-winning television programs, video shorts, social marketing and advocacy campaigns, she has worked for organizations including UNICEF, United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA), Greenpeace, The Land Preservation Trust, MetLife Foundation, The Urban League, Phoenix House, The Bridge (mental health), New York Presbyterian Medical Center, Columbia University School of Nursing, American Society on Aging, NYU Child Study Center, Harlem Children’s Zone, The Door and The Children’s Aid Society.

Beth served as President of New York Women in Film and Television and was on the boards of Film/Video Arts, DocuClub and the Shorts Int’l Film Festival. She attended the Sundance Producers’ Conference and has been a juror for the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Emmys, International Emmys, Ace and Independent Spirit Awards. She serves on the executive board of the Nalanda Institute of Contemplative Science and has participated on advisory boards for The Hague Appeal for Peace, Fresh Start and the PEN Prison Writing Committee.
